...After listening to three economists describe how apartment fundamentals fell off a cliff at the end of 2008, it probably wasn't fair to ask the audience at USC's Casden Real estate Economics Forecast how they felt about the economy.
Almost no one expects to see the economy or credit markets recover in 2009 based on my informal poll of the more than 150 people in attendance at this month's multifamily forecast and the room was divided as to whether a recovery in the underlying factors that drive real estate fundamentals would occur in 2010 or 2011...
...Apparently, according to Delores Conway, director of the Casden Forecast, Greg Willet, vice president with M/PF Yieldstar, and Nancy Sidhu, chief economist for the Los Angeles Economic Development Corp., renters got roommates, moved in with mom and dad, bought a home cheap, found an empty condo or single-family home to rent, or they went back to Mexico...
