... In other news from California last month, a study showed an increasing number of new Americans "are choosing to put permanent roots" outside major metropolitan areas in favor of midsized cities with less entry-level job competition.

The University of Southern California Lusk Center for Real Estate studied 60 cities where housing is more affordable than in the major immigrant gateways of New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

It found that such areas include Nashville, Detroit, Colorado Springs, Minneapolis, Sarasota and El Paso, where new immigrant populations have increased by 27% in times when major cities are losing residents...
