Q&A: Data Drives Dr. Green, Director of USC Lusk Center for Real Estate

...Dr. Green shared with Urban Landscapes his views of the real estate industry, the role the Lusk Center plays as the nation's foremost real estate research institute, as well as his observations of what today's leaders are doing to navigate the challenges they face.

The following is the first of a two-part Q&A session.

URBAN LAND: For anyone new to the area or unfamiliar with USC's Lusk Center, please share more about the Center and what it does?

RICHARD GREEN: The Lusk Center was established at USC in 1987 by John Lusk and his son William to conduct research in the real estate markets including such areas as finance, urban land planning, economic trends and policy matters. That Lusk endowment further established the Lusk Chair in Real Estate within the Marshall School of Business and the School of Policy, Planning, and Development, as well as also funding scholarships for graduate real estate students.

UL: What is the role that the Lusk Center plays in preparing professionals for careers in real estate?

RG: Today, the Lusk Center continues to advance real estate knowledge, inform business practice, and address timely issues that affect the real estate industry, the urban economy, and public policy. Leaders within the Lusk Center and those affiliated with it produce relevant and timely real estate research, support educational programs for students and executives, and convene professional forums that bring together respected academics, students, business executives, and community leaders.
