
Winner of the 2021 USC Ross Program’s Best Development Award, Erik is the founder and principal of Pattern Planning & Development Inc., a land use consulting and permit expediting company based in Los Angeles. He is an urban planner and developer with over fifteen years of experience in land use planning and policy in Southern California. Erik's expertise encompasses various aspects of the policy and planning spectrum, ranging from real estate to economic development and transportation planning.
Erik and his team specialize in managing the land use entitlement and permitting process for residential, commercial, and industrial projects in Southern California, particularly in challenging areas such as the coastal zone. They collaborate with architects, engineers, geologists, and biologists to navigate complex entitlement processes through local, state, and federal agencies. Their extensive experience includes working with entities such as the California Coastal Commission, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Los Angeles County, City of Los Angeles, and Ventura County.
Before establishing Pattern, Erik oversaw the development process of utility-scale solar projects across the nation, from site acquisition to construction. Additionally, Erik served as a planning commissioner for Glendale, California, from 2009 to 2015, including a term as chair in 2013. During this period, he also held the position of senior associate at Cordoba Corporation, a planning and civil engineering firm specializing in transportation, education facilities, water, and energy. As an advocate for walking and biking, Erik co-founded Walk Bike Glendale and actively participates on the Arroyo Verdugo Greenway Committee.
Erik graduated with honors from the University of Southern California, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Policy, Planning, and Development, as well as a Master's degree in Planning.
