"There certainly is a demand to be close," Gary Painter, [research director at the University of Southern California's Lusk Center for Real Estate] said. "We just don't have enough in the market to make a definitive statement about whether this sort of kitchenette living or guest house nearby will become a next wave."
But in higher-end markets, Painter said it's more likely such plans could prosper, including among well-to-do immigrant families...
