LuskREAF Event - The Grove at Farmers Market

When?

April 17, 2002

Join Lusk Center and LuskREAF members for a networking reception and tour of The Grove at Farmers Market. The evening will include a panel presentation featuring:

Rick J. Caruso, Caruso Affiliated Holdings
Mark Panatier, A. F. Gilmore Company
David W. Williams, Caruso Affiliated Holdings

The brand new Grove at Farmers Market and the historic Farmers Market together comprise one of the most unique and noteworthy new retail developments in Southern California. The existing Gilmore family owned Farmers Market - which for generations has provided food and groceries to Southern Californians - has been recently expanded to include additional retailers that connect the old Farmers Market to the new Grove at Farmers Market. The Grove at Farmers Market, with almost 575,000 square feet of shopping, dining and entertainment space, is an open-air urban village retail mall. The two and three story shops are set along a central main street, which winds around Town Square, and a lake with dancing fountains. A trolley runs through the shopping center connecting the parking structure with the Farmers Market. This panel will discuss the challenges of both updating the existing Farmers Market while keeping it's original charm and the challenge of building a new open air mall in a existing urban location. In addition, the panel will discuss financing a retail and entertainment development, leasing during a recession and the challenges of providing parking and infrastructure in a very tight site.
