20TH STREET & PARENT TRIGGER LAW
Four years ago in LA, a group of parents from 20th Street Elementary were ready to stage a revolt. Many were convinced the L.A. Unified School District was failing their neighborhood school...based just south of the 10 Freeway near downtown...so they ran two separate campaigns to convert 20th Street into a charter school. Well — today, four years later, the school is not a charter. But the school's test scores are now among the most-improved in LAUSD.

SOCAL KASHMIRIS
Earlier this month, the government of India made a controversial change to its constitution, stripping the region of Kashmir of its special autonomous status. Before the move, Indian authorities cut internet and phone lines and detained thousands of local leaders. Some Kashmiris here in LA fear for the future of their families, and their homeland, as KPCC's Aaron Schrank reports.
