Biography

Michelle Langer is Senior Vice President of Capital Markets with Cottonwood Communities, a $3.5 billion real estate investment trust (“REIT”) that owns and operates a diverse portfolio of multifamily apartment communities throughout the United States. Formed in 2004, Cottonwood has grown into an industry leading, national multifamily platform. In her role, Michelle’s primary focus is on the development and execution of capital raising and distribution strategies for Cottonwood’s various investment offerings. Since joining the company in 2013, Michelle has helped spearhead the launch of seventeen Cottonwood offerings, including three opportunity zone funds, two international debt funds and Cottonwood’s current $1 billion perpetual NAV REIT, collectively raising over $1.2 billion in investor capital.

Prior to Cottonwood, Michelle served as Vice President of Real Estate Investments for a full-service financial & estate planning firm. She oversaw the company’s real estate division and led a team that specialized in tax deferral opportunities utilizing sections 1031 and 721 of the Internal Revenue Code.

Michelle began her career with Re/Max Commercial Brokerage over 23 years ago and was one of four individuals who created their Major Asset Division in West Los Angeles. Her team consistently ranked as one of the top producing brokerage divisions across Southern California, specializing in the sale and exchange of multifamily assets. Since that time, Michelle has exclusively focused on commercial real estate acquisitions, dispositions, asset management and capital markets, and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and events.

Michelle received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and MBA from the European University based in Montreux, Switzerland. She actively promotes the education and awareness of type-1 diabetes and was recognized as a top individual fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association in 2003, 2004, 2011, 2014 and 2018.

She lives in Brentwood with her husband and three children.
