Charles P. Toppino is the founder and President of Oak Pass Capital Management ("OPC") and has been actively involved in the commercial real estate industry for over 20 years. His experience includes acquisitions, asset management, sourcing equity and debt financing and serving as an advisor to buyers and sellers of assets in the U.S., Europe and Asia. At OPC, Mr. Toppino's focus is on investing in high yielding commercial mortgage and real estate assets with institutional investors and private equity capital partners.
Prior to forming OPC, Mr. Toppino was a Senior Principal at Square Mile Capital Management, a U.S. Private Equity Real Estate investment and management company from July 2008 to December 2010. Mr. Toppino focused on expanding the firm's investment platform on the West Coast and growing its national loan acquisition activities.
Prior to Oak Pass and Square Mile, Mr. Toppino was a founding partner and principal of Secured Capital Corp ("SCC"), a real estate investment bank that focused on advising the commercial real estate sector. In 2006, Secured Capital merged with Eastdil Realty, a real estate investment banking and brokerage company and wholly owned subsidiary of Wells Fargo. Mr. Toppino served as a member of the Management Committee and head of its secondary mortgage sales business until he retired from Eastdil Secured in 2008.
Mr. Toppino was also a founding partner of Secured Capital Investment Management Co., Ltd. ("SCIM"), (previously Secured Capital Japan Co. Ltd.), a private equity real estate investment and management company located in Japan. SCIM merged with PAG (previously Pacific Alliance Group) to create one of the largest Asian multi-asset alternative investment companies. Mr. Toppino is a board member and shareholder of the company as well as an investment committee member (as an observer) of the SCIM’s private equity real estate opportunity funds.
Mr. Toppino is also a founding partner of STAM, a Paris based European real estate investment and management company with real estate investments in France and Italy.
Mr. Toppino holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the Fisher School of Accounting at the University of Florida, was a Certified Public Accountant and serves as a member of the Chairman's Circle for the Kelly Bergstrom Center for Real Estate Studies at the University of Florida and the Executive Committee Member of the USC Lusk Center for Real Estate.
