Two case competitions pitted USC students against the leading real estate programs from throughout the US. For the eighth year now, students from UCLA's Anderson MBA program and USC's Marshall MBA and Master of Real Estate Development programs went head-to-head in a real estate challenged sponsored by the So Cal chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP).
This years Challenge asked each team to prepare a development strategy for a prized 20-acre parcel of the Veterans Administration Hospital property located on the intersection of Wilshire and San Vicente Boulevards in West Los Angeles. Each team utilized criteria that included proposing a development that would provide great economic return to the city, create the best possible use of the property, minimize traffic impacts and enhance the surrounding area."
The USC team, advised by Chris Redfearn, Assistant Professor with the School of Policy, Planning, and Development, retrieved the coveted “Silver Shovel” with a clear victory over a very strong group of UCLA students. USC now leads the competition 5 to 3 and has emerged victorious four out of the past five years. The Silver Shovel is back in Trojan hands and proudly on display at the Lusk Center office.
