Riding the wave: Real estate agents may face big shakeout

October 20, 2005

Any boom in the real estate market attracts people looking to ride the wave, said Delores Conway, director of the Casden Forecast at the University of Southern California's Lusk Center for Real Estate. Conway said many of the newcomers are people who move from industry to industry, depending on which job areas are hot. Conway expects the number of agents in California will likely start to decline to pre-housing-boom levels. But for career agents who've been selling for years, "their salaries don't change that much, because they are always out selling property," Conway said.
